Boots opened in 1849, when John Boot began selling herbal remedies in Nottingham. The chain today covers beauty, skincare, healthcare, baby, fragrance, electrical beauty and pharmacy services. Advantage Card, delivery and returns

The Advantage Card earns 3 points for every £1 spent in store, online or through the app, with each point worth 1p, so the scheme works out as roughly a 3 per cent rebate that can be spent on most things in store. Delivery is free on orders over £25 and £3.95 below that. Click and collect is free to more than 2,000 UK stores, usually with no minimum order, and free delivery kicks in on collect orders of £15 or more. Unwanted items can be returned free of charge within 35 days.

The recurring beauty events, the Big Beauty Weekender among them, cut selected lines by up to half price and are usually the deepest reductions of the year outside the seasonal sales.
