Booking a YHA stay for less
YHA is the charity behind more than 150 youth hostels and around 45 campsites across England and Wales, from city buildings in London and Manchester to remote bunkhouses in the Lake District and on the Pembrokeshire coast. Booking direct is where the money is: private rooms, shared dorms, camping pitches and glamping pods all sit on the same site, and the cheapest nights are usually midweek and outside school holidays. A discount code helps, but membership tends to save more over a season than any single voucher code.
Ways to pay less at YHA
Membership starts from about £10 a year on youth annual direct debit and around £20 for other membership types, and it takes 10 percent straight off accommodation and hot meals at the hostel. Under 26s get a further 5 percent on top of that, which makes a first membership pay for itself in two or three nights. Membership also includes Hostelling International, so the same card works in hostels abroad. Groups and families can book whole rooms rather than beds, and camping or glamping pitches are the cheapest way to use a hostel site in summer.
