What membership actually buys you

CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, is a membership organisation rather than a shop, so the maths works differently from a normal purchase: the question is whether a year's subscription pays for itself, and for anyone who visits pubs regularly the answer usually turns on two schemes.

The first is the discount scheme, which gets members money off at more than 3,600 pubs across the UK. The second is the voucher scheme, redeemable against real ale, cider and perry at over 1,200 pubs. Between them, a handful of pub visits a year covers a good chunk of the subscription. On top of that, membership includes free entry to over 100 beer festivals, though some ask you to book in advance.

Festivals, the guide and the campaign

CAMRA runs through more than 220 local branches, each putting on its own events, which is why the festival calendar is so dense: G-RAF in Glasgow and the Peterborough Beer Festival both fall in August, and the pattern repeats through the year. The organisation also publishes the Good Beer Guide annually, with the 2026 edition currently available through the CAMRA shop, and it remains the reference work for finding well-kept cask beer around the country. Memberships come in single, joint and gift forms, and the discounts available tend to be a fixed amount off each of those three types rather than a percentage.

If you are stocking the fridge rather than heading out, 8Wines and Coffee Bean Shop sit at the other end of the drinks aisle.

FAQ

What is CAMRA?

The Campaign for Real Ale, a UK membership organisation that promotes real ale, cider and perry, and runs beer festivals through its local branches.

How many pubs offer a member discount?

More than 3,600 pubs across the UK take part in the discount scheme, and the separate voucher scheme is redeemable at over 1,200 pubs.

Do members get into beer festivals free?

Membership includes free entry to over 100 beer festivals, although advance booking may be required for some of them.

What is the Good Beer Guide?

CAMRA's annual guide to pubs serving well-kept real ale. The 2026 edition is available through the CAMRA shop.

How many local branches are there?

Over 220 branches across the country, each of which organises its own events and festivals.

What types of membership are available?

Single, joint and gift memberships. Discount codes are usually issued separately for each of the three.
